| 17th April 2003Research has confirmed that betaines in seaweed extracts
encourage the formation of increased numbers of chloroplasts in
leaves and other green organs. This raises the photosynthetic efficiency
of plants improving plant growth.
It results in plants that are greener, healthier, and faster growing
and which can also make maximum use of any sunlight.
This is a real bonus in early sown horticultural crops, during periods
when sunlight levels are low or in boosting the growth of early
season leaves on trees.
Prof Geoff Dixon suggests that this effect may feed back via increased
carbohydrate production to stimulate the growth and robustness of
roots.
